FIRS begins recruitment of experienced professionals and tax officers

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has officially begun the recruitment process and is seeking experienced professionals to fill professional positions and strengthen its workforce.

This was announced on Monday as part of the ongoing FIRS effort to consolidate its operations and improve its service offerings.

The positions advertised include assistant managers and deputy managers in key areas such as taxation (investigation), PRS (research), public relations and ICT (cybersecurity and artificial intelligence management).

In addition, the Authority is looking for assistant managers and deputy managers in the areas of PRS (risk management) and law, as well as senior managers and deputy directors

Qualification Criteria

FIRS stressed that applicants must meet certain qualifications and professional requirements for their desired positions. These include:

  • Qualifications : Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least a second class lower division or lower credit.
  • National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) degree : Applicants must have completed the NYSC course before December 31, 2017.
  • Age Requirement: Applicants for Assistant Manager and Deputy Manager positions are eligible to apply on 31 December 2024 and must not be older than 40 years. Applicants for Senior Manager and Assistant Director positions must not be older than 45 years on the same date.

Required Skills and Competencies

The agency highlights the key skills and competencies required for these positions, which include:

  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Teamwork and the ability to delegate responsibilities effectively.
  • Understanding of Nigerian tax laws and regulatory framework.
  • Analytical skills and familiarity with the taxpayer’s business and industry environment.
  • Possess a regulatory mindset and the courage to enforce compliance with tax laws.

Application Process

Interested candidates are advised to submit their applications through the official FIRS career portal at Careers.firs.gov.ng or through the agency’s verified social media platforms. The application portal will open on 23 December 2024 and the deadline for submission is 11 January 2025.

The Service urges applicants to carefully review the eligibility criteria before applying to ensure that all requirements are met. Applicants are requested to provide accurate and complete information to increase their chances of being selected.

Revenue Officer Job Recruitment

In addition to the current recruitment exercise, FIRS recently announced the opening of the application portal for the Revenue Officer Job on November 2, 2024. This phase targets Class II and Class I civil service positions in eight states: Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Ekiti, Lagos and Oyo.
