Background

In a bid to fight oil theft and improve transparency in Nigeria’s oil and fuel sector, NNPC Ltd has carried out superior monitoring measures and achieved important manufacturing milestones.

  • In August 2022, the Group Chief Government Officer of NNPC Ltd, Mele Kyari, revealed that the corporate had established a sturdy digicam surveillance system, enabling real-time monitoring of crude oil manufacturing throughout all producing stations nationwide. This technique has confirmed instrumental in detecting suspicious actions and addressing oil theft.

We’ve created a practical management heart that screens the whole lot we’re doing. Each digicam in each location by any producer on this nation is seen to us,” Kyari said, emphasizing the significance of collaboration with business companions to make sure the system’s success.

  • The NNPC boss highlighted the vital function of partnerships, noting that the surveillance system, mixed with shut collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, has curtailed marine theft actions.

Once we see suspicious actions of individuals, we report back to the Nigerian Navy, which has all the time responded promptly, resulting in a number of arrests. I can confidently say that we’ve considerably diminished marine theft,” Kyari added.

  • In a current assertion signed by Olufemi O. Soneye, NNPC Ltd’s Chief Company Communications Officer, the corporate introduced a serious achievement in oil and fuel manufacturing. As of November 14, 2024, NNPC Ltd had elevated crude oil manufacturing to 1.8 million barrels per day (mbpd) and pure fuel manufacturing to 7.4 billion normal cubic toes (bscf) per day.

Moreover, the Nigerian Military on Friday launched six military-grade gunboats to help safety forces in combating piracy and oil theft in Rivers State. This initiative is a part of a broader effort to reinforce safety and improve oil manufacturing.
